COVID-19 Relief Fund Payments to Artists Effected
Subsequent to the commitment to effect payments to Free State artists and athletes made on 03 July 2020, the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has started with the payment process through the Free State Arts and Culture Council (PACC). Payments to artists whose applications were successful in the category of Financial Relief started on 17 July 2020. Of the 730 applications received, 360 applications were approved. Payment to all 360 applicants were completed by 19 July 2020. Payments to athletes in the category of Financial Relief will be effected during the week of 28 July 2020 until 01 August 2020. Approved applications in this category, as well as in the category of 4IR/Digital platforms activation, will be published on the Departmental website in due course.
As an additional initiative to alleviate the financial plight of Free State artists caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department introduced the Artist Social Relief support fund based on a Support Voucher system. The closing date for applications for this Artist Social Relief support is 24 July 2020. The list of successful applicants in this category will also be published on the Departmental website after finalisation.
