Department to host Freedom Day Choral Music Festival

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has led the way in positioning choral music as an integral part of the music industry through hosting several successful Choral music festivals. These festivals and competitions produced local choirs that performed at national level and outshone much more established choirs. As part of the 20 Years of Freedom Celebrations, the Department will host a Freedom Day Choral Music festival on 27 April 2014 Bloemfontein. The choirs that will participate include several choirs from outside the Free State that join us in the celebration of our hard won freedom. The Choirs are: Free State Choristers Unity Male Voices Lesotho Chorus Bloemfontein Male Choir Serumula Choir Bloemfontein NG Kerk Wes Cut Choir Belcanto Voices Tumisang Choir Viola Male Voices Free State Police Choir and Good Male Singers Soloists and duets will also be rendering scintillating pieces to mellow the hearts of choral music lovers. “The strides we have made in the 20 years since our freedom have been remarkable and cannot be wished away. As we embark on the process of celebrating this 20 years anniversary of our freedom we will showcase the milestones we have laid in the path of political and socio-economic transformation. Music will form the centre-core of that celebration”, stated Mr Dan Kgothule, the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.
