The Free State Department of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation in collaboration with the Lejweleputswa District Municipality and Matjhabeng Local Municipality will host the ninth (9th) edition of the Provincial O.R. Tambo Games.
This annual event started at the level of the 82 Free State towns, contesting in a league format. Athletes of different ages take part in the following codes: Netball, Volleyball, Basketball and Football. All winning teams then progressed to local municipality and then district municipality elimination stages which finally culminated in the provincial competition.
For the first time since the inception of these prestigious event, players from rural/ farm dwellings will take part in football. Football scouts from around the country and Provincial Federations have been invited to scout talented players.
The event will start with the parading of district teams from Zuka Baloi Stadium to Thabong Community Hall startiong at 16:30 on 25 October 2013.

The opening ceremony will include the memorial lecture on the life and times of the late former president of the African National Congress, Mr O.R. Tambo and local artist such as Manyora a Kasi and Tlapa la Tau will provide the cultural entertainment.
