The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with MICT SETA and East Coast Media/MovieTech Film & Television Production offered an accredited learnership programme for 48 young people who were trained in directing, camerawork, editing, scriptwriting, and other production skills through theory and practical experience. Participants of this programme were awarded with an accredited NQF level 5 National Certificate in Film & Television Production at a graduation ceremony held on 11 July 2017 in Mangaung.
Targeted participants were young people who are interested to pursue careers in digital film and television production, media, arts, and technology and have demonstrated creative or technical ability. The 48 participants were selected through interviews and aptitude test and were accommodated at DSACR’s Record Center for 12 months. Successful applicants also had their tuition fees paid and received a monthly stipend.
“Through the Performing, Visual Arts and Craft programme the department continues to uplift the standard of film and television making in the province. We have also assisted two Free State film companies to produce a film for Mzansi Magic and a documentary on one of the Free State flagship programme. The Department has set aside a budget to sustain the momentum around film and television development in the province” said MEC Mathabo Leeto.
