The Department of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation in collaboration with Matjhabeng Local Municipality, will embark on a combined art extravaganza project through the Lejweleputswa Arts and Culture Festival to showcase talent and create platform for emerging artist in our municipalities.


This festival is a platform to enhance, empower, showcase talent and create space for development in the arts within the district. Through this program different genres in the arts such as theatre, music and dance will be promoted in a quest to enhance social and competitive activities in communities.


The festival will comprise of different art forms in theatre, dance and music structured as follows:


  • Theatre: Drama and Poetry
  • Dance: Tradition and Afro fusion (Hip-Hop, Sepantsula and Sepotjwa)
  • Music: Gospel, Spiritual, Traditional, Kwaito and Jazz, and
  • Fashion Show.


The event will be hosted to coincide with the staging of the 2013 Sipho Mutsi Games and will serve as the Games’ cultural content. It is scheduled as follows:

Trophies and Price money will be awarded to winners in different categories. Registration of groups/artists as well as entrance is free.


The event is expected to attract about 1000 youths across Lejweleputswa District.
