Mr. Dan Kgothule will perform a SOD-turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction of the two (2) Indoor Sport Centers, one in Kutlwanong/Odendaalsrus and another in Tumahole/Parys. The ceremonies will be conducted in partnership with Matjhabeng Local municipality as well as Ngwathe Local municipality.
The Indoor Sport Center in Kutlwanong/Odendaalsrus, to be called Sipho Mutsi Indoor Sport Centre, will be situated in the Sipho Mutsi Sport Precinct which is one of the major sport infrastructure developments in the area of Kutlwanong. The Sport Precinct itself will also consist of a newly constructed stadium with an eight (8) lane tartan athletic track. It is further planned that before the end of this financial year, an Outdoor Multi-Purpose Sport Court will also be constructed in Kutlwanong.
The Tumahole Indoor Sport Centre in Tumahole/Parys will be situated around the newly launched Fezile Dabi Stadium.
The project cost for Sipho Mutsi Indoor Centre as well as Tumahole Indoor Sport Centre is R35 million each. Both the Indoors will have, the following facilities, amongst others:
- Indoor multi-purpose sport court (basketball, netball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, etc.)
- Gym area
- Medical room
- Change rooms (for home team and visiting team)
- Ablution block for public
- +/- 600 seat auditorium for spectators
- Offices
- Kiosk
- Storerooms
It is the mandate of the Department to provide facilities to the communities of the
Free State where excellence in sport can be promoted. The Department has under the
leadership of MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr. Dan Kgothule, built
and developed Community Gyms, High Performance Centers, and Multipurpose
Sport Courts throughout the province. The Indoor Sport Centers are the next chapter
in the development of sport facilities in the Free State province in a quest to develop
the province as the foremost sporting province in the country.
