The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mrs. Mathabo Leeto congratulates Prince Kaybee on his nomination and award at the 24th South African Music Awards (SAMAs). The SAMAs are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music awards, established in 1995 and hosted annually to celebrate and honor local musicians, producers and engineers who create music in our country.

The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mrs. Mathabo Leeto would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Free State Stars football club for a sterling performance during the 2018 Nedbank Cup tournament. On 21 April 2018, Free State Stars defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in the semifinal match held at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban thus ensuring a spot in the final of the tournament which saw Free State Stars locking horns with Maritzburg United at the Cape Town stadium over the weekend (19 May 2018).

RECENT EVENTS
The MACUFE Arts and Craft Market was operational at 35 Markgraaff St, Westdene, Mangaung from Monday, 02 October until Saturday, 07 October 2017 and entrance was free of charge. Visual artists and crafters were provided with the opportunity to showcase their work.
The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation held a Recreational Big Walk in Mangaung on Friday 06 October 2017 at the Mangaung Outdoor Sports Ground. The day was filled various health activities and aerobics.
The MACUFE Comedy Show was hosted at The Dome, Old Greys Sports Ground on Wednesday, 04 October 2017. The line-up featured David Kau, Tieho Khakhau, Rasta, Skhumba, and Elton Mduduzi Ntuli among others.
On Friday 06 October the city of Mangaung was set alight with the staging of the MACUFE Divas at The Dome. Performances by local and international female sensations kept the ladies on their feet. The night was opened by Mangaung’s very own Noxy.
The 20th edition of MACUFE was celebrated in style on Saturday 07 October 2017 at the MACUFE Main Festival which was staged at Rose Garden, Loch Logan in Mangaung.
The MACUFE Theatre was staged at the Civic Theatre and PACOFS with productions such as Money Maker, Paleho, Poetic Cries, and Mantsho. All these took place from Wednesday, 04 October until Friday, 06 October 2017.
Free State athlete, paralympian and world record holder in the 5000m for blind athletes, Louzanne Coetzee ran the half-marathon in an unofficial world best time for a blind athlete of 1 hour and 27 minutes.
