The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will commemorate Heritage Day through a series of activities that are aimed at fostering social cohesion in our communities as well as recognizing and celebrating the cultural wealth of our nation. In general, South Africans commemorate this day by remembering the cultural heritage of the many cultures and traditions that make up the diverse population of our country.

FREE STATE NATIONAL RECREATION DAY AND BIG WALK

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) will commemorate the National Recreation Day (NRD) as part of the ongoing campaign to educate society around the importance of recreation and engaging in physical activities. The aim is to have the majority of South African citizens embracing and participating in physical activities in a fun and leisurely fashion and further create a long-term campaign of improving levels of participation of citizens in active recreation programs for lifelong wellness. INCIDENT OF FIRE AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SACR BUILDING

On the 22nd September 2019 a section of the Sport and Recreation building of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR), caught fire. The incident apparently occurred in the morning of that day. The fire was extinguished by the fire extinguishers from the Mangaung Metro Municipality, this after a damage was caused on the ground floor of the building. The Fire Investigator and the Forensic expert from the South African Police Service came to the scene from the 23rd September 2019 to further determine the cause of the fire as part of the broad investigation. It is anticipated that the report will be finalized by Monday the 30th September 2019. Read more...

DSACR CONGRATULATES MOLEFI NTSEKI ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS BAFANA BAFANA COACH

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) hereby congratulates Mr. Molefi Ntseki on his appointment as the new head coach for South Africa’s national soccer team – Bafana Bafana. Originally born in Excelsior and spent the pinnacle of his coaching career in Welkom, Mr. Ntseki has contributed immensely towards the development of football within youth structures in South Africa.
