SOCIAL SUPPORT TO FREE STATE (FS) ARTISTS APPLICATION In addition to the Relief Fund and 4IR resources made available to mitigate against widespread cancellation of festivals, music concerts, exhibitions, productions and other events in the wake of the COVID 19 Pandemic, the FSACC has now extended the scope to include social support to Free State artists and creative industry workers infected or affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.

It is with a great sense of joy and pride that the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has learnt about the selection of two (2) Free State singers into the Top 16 of South African Idols. Namely, these singers are Sibongile “Bongi” Mtambo from Welkom and Boitumelo “Be” Mohutsioa from Mangaung. News of their selection into the Top 16 of South African Idols has been received with jubilation across the Free State Province and the Department encourages all the people of our province to demonstrate their unwavering support to both Be and Bongi through voting as soon as voting lines are opened. The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) takes this opportunity to congratulate Karla Pretorius – a Free State-born international netball star – on winning the Global Woman in Sport award at the 2020 edition of the Momentum G-Sport Awards held on 31 August 2020. The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) in collaboration with the Free State Writers Forum is proud to announce that one of its own authors, Mr. Shoaneng Ephraim Sefali, has recently authored a powerful poem celebrating the legacy of Former President Nelson Mandela and this poem has also been published through the Centre for African Studies for Development and Innovation (CEADI), in Cape Verde. FREE STATE POET – MOSHE SEKHOBO – WINS AVBOB POETRY COMPETITION

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) is proud to announce that one of its own prolific authors and poets, Moshe Samuel Sekhobo, is the 2019/2020 AVBOB Poetry Competition award winner. He won 1st place in the Sesotho Language Category. The AVBOB Poetry Competition is a national competition that includes all 11 South African languages in all the 9 Provinces; with 15,000 poets competing in all 11 South African languages.
