RESPONSE TO REPORTS ON STATE OF CHARLES MOPELI STADIUMThe Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has noted social media reports about the current state of Charles Mopeli stadium in QwaQwa, Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality. While the Department understands and appreciates the concerns raised by members of the public about the state of the stadium, we simultaneously wish to allay the fears as in all earnest hence there is no cause for concern or panic. DSACR OFFICIAL CROWNED 2021 MISS PLUS INTERCONTINENTAL SOUTH AFRICAThe Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) would like to take this opportunity to convey its congratulatory message to Ms Dipolelo Hou for winning the 2021 Miss Plus Intercontinental South Africa title. Accordingly, Ms Hou works for DSACR as the Deputy Director responsible for Special Programmes and has previously served as the Personal Assistant to the Member of the Executive (MEC) from 2015 until 2019. DSACR MOURNS PASSING OF VETERAN ACTOR – DR SAM PHILLIPSThe South African creative industry has suffered another loss and this time around the nation mourns the passing on of a veteran film actor, producer, writer and director – Dr Sam Phillips – whose works is internationally acclaimed having been nominated for an Oscar in 1990 for his lead role in a Senzeni Na? short-film. Dr Phillips was also recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Zululand during its 2020 graduation ceremony. DSACR MOURNS PASSING OF SPORT JOURNALIST – MYZER MABELENGIt is with shock and sadness that the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has received news of the untimely passing of Ms. Myzer Mabeleng – a sport journalist and broadcaster who was also a National Executive Committee member of the Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club supporters’ association. DSACR CELEBRATES TOP 16 IDOLS CONTESTANTS FROM FREE STATEIt is with a great sense of joy and pride that the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has learnt about the selection of two (2) Free State singers into the Top 16 of South African Idols. Namely, these singers are Sibongile “Bongi” Mtambo from Welkom and Boitumelo “Be” Mohutsioa from Mangaung. News of their selection into the Top 16 of South African Idols has been received with jubilation across the Free State Province and the Department encourages all the people of our province to demonstrate their unwavering support to both Be and Bongi through voting as soon as voting lines are opened.
