====2018 NELSON MANDELA AMATEUR BOXING TOURNAMENT Amateur boxing in the Free State has enjoyed significant assistance as one of the priority codes which are part of the Elite Athlete Support Programme of the FS Sport Science Institute. The MEC of Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Me N.S Leeto, announced on 20 April 2018 in her 2018/19 budget vote: “The Department will embark on new projects for this financial year: The first one will be to celebrate the love that Nelson Mandela had for the sport of boxing.The Department with the Free State Boxing Federation will host the Nelson Mandela Amateur Boxing Championships.” Read more... FREE STATE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TO CELEBRATE MANDELA DAY IN CLARENSAs part of the centenary celebration of Former President Nelson Mandela who would have turned 100 years on 18 July 2018 had he still lived, the Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) will celebrate this year’s Nelson Mandela International Day in Clarens, Free State. SEMITO LIPHOKO NOMINATED FOR SAAFMAAdding to the growing number of Free State artists who continue to be recognized on national platforms for their musical prowess, Semito Liphoko has earned a nomination at the forthcoming South African Afro Music Awards (SAAFMA) in the Best Afro Public Favorite Song category. The award ceremony which will take place on 04 August in Johannesburg will see Semito competing with music sensations such as Samthing Soweto, Mondli, Nameless Band and El Musician in the same category.
