2019 PROVINCIAL LANGUAGE ENRICHMENT COMPETITIONSLanguage is the basis of all thinking and learning. We need to ensure that learners are motivated about learning as a society, because learning create opportunities for all children to succeed in life. MUSICON TO HOST SOLOIST SINGING COMPETITIONThe Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) will host the 2019 edition of the Free State MUSICON Soloist Singing Competition in a bid to develop and promote a singing culture in the Province. Since its inception eleven years ago, this competition has become a catalyst in bringing soloists from all walks of life together. AUDITIONS FOR FREE STATE MASS CHOIR TO BE HELDOn 09 July 2019 the Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms. Limakatso Mahasa presented her maiden Budget Vote speech at the Fourth Raadsaal in which she stated that, “[During] this financial year we will establish our own Free State Provincial Mass Choir which is similar to the internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir.” This injunction is yet another initiative by the Department to ensure that choral music in the Free State Province is promoted and developed further. DSACR CONGRATULATES MOLEFI NTSEKI ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS BAFANA BAFANA COACHThe Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) hereby congratulates Mr. Molefi Ntseki on his appointment as the new head coach for South Africa’s national soccer team – Bafana Bafana. Originally born in Excelsior and spent the pinnacle of his coaching career in Welkom, Mr. Ntseki has contributed immensely towards the development of football within youth structures in South Africa. Mangaung Strings ProgrammeMangaung Strings Programme Application Forms: 2019 FREE STATE SPORT AWARDS RESULTSOn 16 August 2019 the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) in partnership with the Free State Sport Confederation (FSSC) presented the 2019 edition of the Free State Sport Awards to reward Free State sport stars for their efforts in keeping the passion of sport alive in the hearts of millions of Free Staters through their efforts in local, national and international sports events. The Free State Sport Awards were held at the Free State Rugby Stadium in Bloemfontein and were created to recognize and honour individuals and teams who have excelled both on and off the field. Read more... FS ATHLETES SHINE AT WORLD PARA ATHLETICS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPSThe 2019 World Para Athletics Junior Championships took place in Nottwil, Switzerland from 01 – 04 August 2019. At these championships Obed Lekhele and Arina Nicholaisen who both hail from the Free State Province were selected to represent South Africa. Lekhele won silver in the T42 High Jump male u/20 event while Nicholaisen broke the 2001 Senior World Record in the T38 800m Female u/20 event with a time of 2:35,83. Read more...
